If there's one thing that never fails to annoy me year after year, it's how restrictive Apple has made iTunes and the corresponding sync settings for all iDevices. It's preposterous that an iPhone can only back up to and get music from ONE computer, because what happens if and when that computer goes kaput? Am I to never back up or put music on my phone again? This has always bothered me. Plus syncing in general is just annoying. What to do, what to do...
Well, as luck would not have it, I've recently had to find answers to these questions because my 4.5 year old Macbook Pro bit the dust for no good reason and I've been left stranded on a sync-less island. Fortunately, I've discovered a (super duper) easy way to put music on an iPhone from any computer, without syncing. Yep. Buckle up, people. This is gonna blow your mind.
(Make sure iTunes is up to date before starting.)
1. Make a new playlist in iTunes with all the music you want to transfer over.
2. Plug your phone in and find the music tab under your phone in the sidebar.
3. At the bottom of the screen, there will be a dropdown menu that says "Autofill from: Music". Click this and find the name of your playlist in the menu.
4. Click the "Settings" button across from "Autofill from" and make sure all 3 boxes are UNchecked. Press OK.
5. Click Autofill.
The songs will copy over and you'll still have all your old music—it's like magic!
Now I just have to find an easier way to sync an iPhone to a new computer without losing everything.
